Diocesan President Letter - December 2009
Hello all DOK,
Well, two holidays are over, one more to go. With halloween and Thanksgiving done, we can look forward to a quiet and reflective Advent as we await the coming of Jesus.

What does it mean to ....wait...? Wait for what? Wait for better times, healing, a new house, or perhaps wait for miraculous-expectations, the long awaited Christ Child. Now is the time for us to begin the slow and sometimes painful exploration of our own souls for those little niches of anxiety, fear and disbelief. Time to get rid of those things and replace them with peace, love and faith. Time to study the Word of God. Time to go to church, partake of the Eucharist. Time to go see a friend. Time to just be! Loving Advent, everyone. Jerry Ann

Diocesan President Letter - April 2009
Hello Daughters,
I took my dog Hank to the Vet. He has a bad leg, the dog, not the Vet. The Vet put him on medication and "bed" rest for several weeks. I tell you this by way of saying see the dilemma that I'm in? Do I do nothing about Hank or do we have surgery? What to do?

Should I tell the Daughters about the $300 grants available to them as delegates to Triennial, do I publish the names of the Executive Board, Ministry Board and Convocational Reps? Even though I don't have all of them yet. Do I tell you about Fall Assembly and Spring Assembly? All these things, are not finished yet, but will be by Triennial.

No! I won't tell you about these things because you are still calling Linda Astala. I call her, why shouldn't you? I'll tell you about them, because they are things you should know. The $300 grant money that is available though the Diocesan Daughters is available by mail to me and then Elaine Campbell our Treasurer. Jr. DOK are granted the same amount, so delegates step up to the plate. We only have a few of you who have requested the money.

The Executive Board is set for the next few years. The Ministry Board is almost set, with a couple of exceptions, mainly someone to write the Angelus for Linda Blumberg, (that's twice a year.) And the Convocational Reps are set except for a couple of spaces that I haven't heard. So that part is in good shape. I'm not sure about what else I need to tell you about, the Fall Assembly, "Service Though Prayer",is being hosted by Longview. The workshops are in good shape. The Bishop has agreed to be there for Opening Service. And, our Keynoter will be a good one. I promise you. The Spring Assembly will be in Lake Jackson. That's all I'll say about that right now.

Seriously, ladies, it is a pleasure to work with each of you. I look forward to our next three years together.

DIOCESAN Service Projects:

CAMPBELL's FOOD PRODUCT LABELS: The current project that we are working on:  1,500,000 Campbell’s Product labels so that Down Home Ranch can get a minivan.  This may sound like a rather lofty goal, but project chair, Vivian Young, has already banked over 14,300 labels and she has only just started spreading the word.
Send your eligible Campbell’s product labels to Vivian Young, 6718 Oak Masters, Spring, TX 77379  Phone:  281-251-9538 or Send Email for more information . She is our Diocesan coordinator. For DOK chapters, send your church name, chapter name, and label collection contact name/address. Vivian has set up an account with Campbell's to bank the labels/proof of purchases year round. So, send your labels as you go to avoid the clutter of large amounts of labels.

For more information on Down Home Ranch, you can visit their website at: http://www.downhomeranch.org . The contact at Down Home Ranch is: LeAnn Powers, Director of Development - Phone Number 888-926-2253.
